Design of a new retail banking mobile app for HSBC.
Overview
I worked with a product design studio based in Shoreditch & one of the world’s most iconic financial names – HSBC; to design an updated, sleeker, more streamlined mobile banking app.
The rich brand heritage of the bank is told through the use of emotive imagery which helps connect the brand experience with the customer.
The user experience was designed around making the customers life as easy as possible. This means making primary use cases like transacting and reviewing balances quick and effortless whilst feeling robust and secure. All design decisions were anchored to this guiding principle.
Proactive, contextual notifications and alerts proactively communicate important customer messages in situ with key banking tasks. They are designed to quietly inform at key moments and then disappear.
An Iterative Approach
The design and customer experience were repeatedly tested using prototypes. This allowed the design team to constantly learn and iterate. Using the same set of design tools throughout the initial wireframe design process through to the visual and interaction design stages enabled a collaboration style of working both internally and on the client side.
